Long before I was working with executive teams, I was driving across Chicago in the middle of the night as a crisis responder.
I walked into families’ hardest moments with no script and no preparation. What mattered most was whether I could regulate myself enough to help someone else regain clarity.
I saw clearly that when someone is overwhelmed, you cannot reason with them. Logic disappears when the nervous system feels threatened. No amount of advice works until a person feels safe enough in their body to access clear thinking again.
At the same time, I was completing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Florida, where I studied psychology and human systems. I was drawn to understanding why capable people shut down, escalate, or over-function under pressure.
I built Empower Family Therapy into a thriving group practice with a team of therapists and clinicians, and over time my work expanded beyond clinical settings into leadership coaching, keynote speaking, and consulting with organizations.
Through my work with executive leaders and organizations, I began noticing a similar pattern to what I had seen earlier in my work with families and in crisis settings. When pressure increased, the clarity many leaders normally relied on became harder to access.
Conversations moved faster, patience wore thinner, and decisions that once felt thoughtful began happening more reactively.
I began helping leaders strengthen their ability to stay connected to CALM and clear thinking under pressure.
That work eventually led me to develop leadership frameworks and training programs designed to support leaders in maintaining clarity, sound judgment, and effective communication when the stakes are high.
